Organization Announcement
May 5, 2022
After more than four decades of providing services to Waterloo Region families, Our Place Family Resource and Early Years Centre has made the difficult decision to shut down operations.
Our Place has operated thanks to local and provincial funding, donor support and specifically as a mobile operator with EarlyON | Waterloo Region. However, funding has decreased significantly and it’s not financially sustainable for us to continue operations.
We are so grateful for the outpouring support and love from all of the friends of Our Place. We have received a lot of questions about our funding situation and why exactly we are closing. We hope that this provides some clarity:
Historically, Our Place has operated for over 40 years thanks to local and provincial funding and donor support. When the Region of Waterloo named the YMCA of Three Rivers as Lead Agency for EarlyON Waterloo Region in 2018, Our Place became an operator of EarlyON mobile programs, EarlyON funding remaining Our Place's core funding. As of June 30th, 2022, the YMCA of Three Rivers will no longer be extending this service agreement to Our Place. Given this loss of core funding, it is not financially sustainable for us to continue operations.
Our Place will mark the end of an era in the community on June 30. This was an extremely difficult decision and we’re working to determine how we can continue to support families through selected programming past June 30.
While this chapter is closing for Our Place, there are still chapters to be written for some of our programs. We’re currently looking for a new home for our Stork Secrets program, our Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder peer support group. We will be reaching out to community organizations who deliver peer support programs in the community to find a new host for this group.
We are so grateful to our staff and volunteers for their commitment to Our Place over the years. We’re committed to making sure our staff have the support they need during this transition.
We value the partnerships we’ve created over the past forty years and know we’ll leave a lasting legacy in Waterloo Region. We’re so grateful for the trust families have placed in us over the years.
