Our Place Family Resource and Early Years Centre is a
Family Resource Centre that offers Early Learning and
Family Engagement opportunities to encourage the optimal
development of children and families.
Our Place operates the EarlyON - ST. FRANCIS site as part of EarlyON Waterloo Region. (formerly known as Ontario Early Years Centres)
A plan is underway to give more children and families in Waterloo Region access to programs that help them learn, grow and connect together. Programs for children up to age six are available at Ontario Early Years Centres (OEYCs); but the Province is creating a better system to deliver these programs. This involves changing the name of OEYCs to EarlyON Child and Family Centres.
In the near future, signage for EarlyON will go up at OEYCs in the region. These centres will continue to offer a variety of programs and services that support early learning and development, engage parents and caregivers, and make connections for families.
These changes are guided by the Ministry of Education’s vision and How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years.
Other EarlyON Locations in Waterloo Region:
Cambridge Family Early Years Centre
EarlyON Child and Family Centres
Early Learning in Child and Family Settings
For the last 3 years, Our Place has been engaged in exploring pedagogy in child and family program settings and building on the capacity of the Ontario Early Years Centres of Waterloo Region (now EarlyON Waterloo Region) for implementation and adaptation of pedagogy.
Our Place has created an independent resource booklet, How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years in Ontario Early Years Centres Waterloo Region. The booklet serves as a useful, wide-ranging tool to support professional development and sharing best practices. It uses Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years as the foundation for building pedagogical approaches to guide child and family programs and services, and support inclusive and welcoming community spaces.
“My child and I come here every day and love being here and in the programs. Until you engaged with me in pedagogy and HDLH I had no idea of the thinking behind all the activities and interactions! I thought they just happened and were fun! Now I know the intentionality and impact. Wow!” Parent at Our Place, Kitchener-Waterloo
